Santa Fe Photographic Workshops Launches First Ever Mentorship Program with World-Renowned Photographers

Photography aspirations and dreams expand beyond the classroom.

Santa Fe, NM (Vocus/PRWEB ) February 11, 2009 -- Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, the premier photographic workshop organization in the world, announces the launch of its Photography Mentorships program, a unique new learning opportunity for serious advanced amateur and professional photographers.

Throughout history, learning from a master through an apprenticeship has been a valued tradition. In today’s business world, many experts recommend working with a mentor to accelerate one’s path to success; however, the difficult task of finding and cultivating a mentor relationship has been left in the hands of the student. As a result, most learning still occurs in a classroom or workshop environment. Now, with its new Photography Mentorships program, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops elevates innovative learning to an exciting level for those passionate about photography.

Reid Callanan, founder and director of Santa Fe Photographic Workshops explained, “For 19 years, I have watched people’s dreams and aspirations flourish under the guidance of our talented photography instructors during our week-long workshops. We are thrilled to offer a mentorship program that fosters an even closer relationship between student and teacher on an ongoing basis from anywhere in the world.”

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops’ Photography Mentorships program offers three customizable options spanning twelve months, six months or single sessions. Participants are matched with one of twelve distinguished photography legends such as Nevada Weir, Arthur Meyerson, Sam Abell and Elizabeth Opalenik. The twelve- and six-month mentorships are customized to the participant’s goals and are structured to include photographic assignments, online critiques and phone consultations every three weeks. Single sessions provide the opportunity to focus on a specific topic for one hour with a mentor.

Initial response to the program has been overwhelming. “Our phones have been flooded with calls from all over the world,” said Callanan, who consults personally with each applicant to ensure a perfect match between student and mentor. Jimmy Lam, an aspiring photographer in Singapore was one of the first to sign up. “I instantaneously made the decision to apply for this program,” Lam said. “It was a no brainer. I live in Asia. In Chinese custom, if a great master offers you the opportunity to be his disciple, you do not ask whether you should accept the offer. You just ask when and where.”

The Workshops’ mentors have a strong commitment to their students. Renowned commercial photographer and color master, Arthur Meyerson stated, “Early in my career, I was fortunate enough to come under the spell of Ernst Haas who later became my mentor. One of the many things I learned from him was that teaching was a great way to give back to a profession that's been good to you. Seeing someone progress, be inspired and get excited about their work makes it all worthwhile.” Meyerson calls the learning experience at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops “the benchmark by which other photo workshops are measured, primarily due to Reid’s leadership and his great staff.”

To apply for a mentorship, simply contact Santa Fe Photographic Workshops at (505) 983-1400 to arrange an appointment with Reid Callanan to discuss the mentorship opportunity. Prices range from $375 to $4,500, depending on the length of the mentorship selected.
