Wilmington, MA (PRWEB) February 19, 2009 -- Despite a faltering economy, Innovative Foods/Goodwives Hors D'oeuvres will open the doors on a new production facility. The 22,000 square foot USDA facility was financed by a low cost loan from MassDevelopment and will create new jobs for the state.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on March 4, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at 330 Ballardvale St., in Wilmington, MA. The ceremony includes a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities and a reception featuring some of Goodwives award-winning hors d'oeuvres.
Goodwives had been located in a Lynn, MA facility for the past 15 years and grew steadily even in light of the current economic climate. Expanded distribution into new parts of the country and growing customer demand caused the company to outgrow its space last year and the new facility was designed.
"The move to a new facility means that Goodwives can expand our retail and foodservice presence with the nation's leading supermarkets, hotels, casinos and restaurants," General Manager Doug Mitchell said. "Previously we were at our capacity."
The construction of the new facility was made possible by low-cost financing from MassDevelopment, the state's finance and development authority that helps business stimulate economic growth across the Commonwealth. With the help of MassDevelopment, Goodwives used the proceeds from a $3,965,000 tax-exempt bond purchased by TD BankNorth to build the expanded facility.
"We have to thank MassDevelopment and TD BankNorth," Mitchell continued. "They have been great in the transition and although the project started before the economy started to slip, they never wavered in their support of us."
The expanded facility also increases Goodwives' production ability and the company plans to increase its already extensive product line, creating more jobs for the Wilmington area. The company is hoping to hire at least 50 new employees in the coming year.
"We are adding over 50 new items to our product line, thereby creating more of a one stop shop experience for our customers," Mitchell added. "Also, we will be more efficient and we can take on larger projects."
The new facility will allow Goodwives to provide even better customer service with increased frozen storage capacity, a more accessible loading dock and expanded production and packaging areas. For over 30 years, Goodwives has produced hand-made hors d'oeuvres with the highest quality ingredients. In the new facility, Goodwives will continue to make all of it's product by hand.
