Five Tribesmen Adapt to American Life in Travel Channel's 'Meet the Natives USA'

Tribesmen Journey to America to Meet the Unusual Natives Who Inhabit the United States

Chevy Chase, MD (PRWEB) October 27, 2009 -- Imagine playing in the snow, seeing the New York skyline, or eating a Thanksgiving turkey, all for the first time. Beginning Sunday, November 29 with stacked episodes at 9PM and 10PM and premiering Sundays at 10PM through December 20, five tribesmen from the South Pacific island of Tanna will do just that when they embark on a 7,000 mile journey to assimilate to western civilization in Travel Channel's 'Meet the Natives USA.' Hand-picked by their supreme chief to undertake a special mission to America, the ambassadors from Tanna leave their traditional way of life behind to travel to the U.S. to learn more about American culture.

Eager to fit in and conform to American society, the ambassadors shed their traditional garb for warmer, more suitable fashion, as they adjust to a cooler climate and conservative surroundings. In each episode the tribesmen live with a new host family for one week: including ranchers in Montana, a society belle in New York City; a mid-western family in Peoria, Illinois; a fun-loving family in Orange County, CA; and a military family in Ft. Stewart, GA; adapting to unfamiliar norms, and for the first time experiencing the luxuries that Americans often take for granted.

Dissecting every part of U.S. culture they experience, the tribesmen provide their assessment of western values on each family they stay with, and in turn, the American hosts learn more about themselves than they ever thought possible. Additionally, the ambassadors impart wisdom and knowledge on their hosts by describing their simple life on Tanna, and telling tales of the American soldier who brought peace to their island during World War II. Hoping to reinforce their message of peace to America's leaders, the ambassadors conclude their journey with a trip to Washington, D.C., securing a meeting with a well-known government official and offering their peace tokens from Tanna.

The ambassadors return to Tanna where they find great contrast in the life they left behind. Stepping foot on their home soil, the tribesmen are eager to tell their families about America and proud to have finally met the strange natives that inhabit the United States.
