The Audacity of Community: Minority Business Directory Empowers Minority and Women-Owned Businesses

The Minority Business Directory fulfills its manifest destiny to empower women and minority-owned businesses from New York to California.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 8, 2009 -- The fast-growing Minority Business Directory in New York State is geared up to release its first New Jersey edition in January 2010. The New Jersey Minority Business Directory will feature minority and women-owned businesses across the state, helping promote their work to procurement officers, diversity managers, prime contractors and the community conscious shopper.

Gregory Newson, owner, president and founder of the Minority Business Directory (MBD), plans for the New Jersey edition to help strengthen the minority business community into a formidable political force, able to fight for a more effective statewide certification program. New Jersey’s Minority Business Directory will function as a holistic promotion vehicle and networking tool, building relationships among other businesses and with contractors and government officers.

The theme of the first edition New Jersey Minority Business Directory is “Audacity of Change” - highlighting MBD’s anticipation that this marketing tool will help empower the unique New Jersey minority business landscape. Most importantly, MBD hopes to provide information and education about the certification processes available to New Jersey businesses, as they have done in New York State. The number of certified minority or women owned businesses in New York State has reached nearly 8000 since MBD’s conception.

Launched almost nine years ago, the Minority Business Directory is a unique business tool focusing on promoting minority and women owned businesses, exposing them to diversity managers, prime contractors, and procurement officers, as well as the community conscious shopper, by using both online compiling and the publication of a hard copy directory.

MBD provides opportunities for businesses to purchase ads both online and in the hard copy directory, list their information in an easily search-able database, as well as post and review bid proposals from contractors trying to outsource projects.

In New York State, the Minority Business Directory has been using a holistic approach to build a community among social entrepreneurs and to advocate social equality. With their easily accessible FREE directory and networking capabilities, the Minority Business Directory is working to actively and positively change the social landscape, allowing previously disadvantaged businesses opportunities to rise up and level the playing field.
