South Australia is the fourth largest of Australia's six states and offers travelers a truly authentic Australian experience. Adelaide, the capital city, is a delightful jumping off point for exploring the region. Surrounded by parklands, Adelaide is home to just over 1 million people and the Central Business District is one square mile, perfect for exploring the fine museums, great restaurants, and the famed Central Market--the largest covered market in the Southern Hemisphere. South Australia is a haven for wine lovers, as well. Over 60% of all Australian wines come from the state's wine regions--the Barossa Valley, the Clare Valley, the McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills, and more. Soft adventure activities such as hiking, diving, and mountain biking abound in this nature-filled state. In fact, South Australia arguably has the most accessible wildlife in the country on Kangaroo Island, often referred to as Australia's Galapagos.

Teeming with kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, seals, sea lions, echidnas, penguins and goannas, Kangaroo Island is the best place in Australia to see the widest range of free-roaming native animals in their natural habitat. At approximately 90 miles long, 35 miles wide, and with 280 miles of coastline, Kangaroo Island is Australia's third largest island with almost a third of its area covered in pristine wilderness and conservation parks. It is not surprising, then, that the island has retained its rich diversity of flora and fauna, much of which is not found on the mainland. Flinders Chase National Park is set in 180,000 acres and is home to both Remarkable Rocks, huge, weather-shaped granite boulders perched on a dome standing 246 feet above the sea, as well as Admiral's Arch, an impressive landmark home to 6,000 native New Zealand fur seals. The island also features Seal Bay, one of only two places in the world that visitors can walk with a national park ranger among a breeding colony of rare Australian sea lions. Kangaroo Island is also home to 30 vineyards and 18 labels, and already has a reputation for its dynamic food and wine culture.

In addition to Kangaroo Island, some of the best places to glimpse wildlife are the rugged Flinders Ranges, and enchanting Gawler Ranges. Known as the "Gateway to the Outback," South Australia is also home to Coober Pedy, the world's opal mining capital. A variety of three- and four-day Food & Wine, Wildlife, Culture & History, and Outback itineraries and touring options are available to guests through Qantas Vacations.

The Qantas Vacation offer is based on the purchase of the Qantas Airways South Australia AirPass starting from $898 per person. For more information on this and other offers to South Australia, visit www.qantasvacations.com/earlybirdSA or call 888-306-3852.
