How "Shop Locally" Saves Christmas -- Collier West is On the Move to Support Ohio’s Best Designers
Columbus, Ohio - Collier West, an Ohio grown retailer who finds beautiful and unusual objects, jewelry and home décor from around the globe, is actively promoting locally produced gifts for this holiday season.
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) November 4, 2009 -- “Shop locally” requires more than just a commitment from the public to patronize their local establishments; it is a responsibility for the shop owners themselves, so Collier West is taking to the streets of the Buckeye state searching for their next Ohio designers.
“Locally owned independent businesses return nearly 80% of each dollar received back into the community. A single dollar spent at a locally owned business will return five times that amount within the community through tax, wage and support purchases. Ultimately, it reaches our schools, social services and non-profit organizations.”
“There is no better time, than the holiday season, to support local artists," states CW owner, Suzi West. “You can proudly give to your friends and family and know that you supported the independent spirit.”
Four year old, Collier West carries several Ohio based designers and has long promoted the Short North Arts District as a premier and inclusive shopping district. Handmade decoupage cards, children’s organic toys by Little Alouette, home produced soaps by a CCAD alum and personalized stationery are created by Columbus Ohio natives and consistently stocked at the shop. Buyer, West, utilizes local events Tiny Canary and the CCAD student art sale as opportunities to meet up-and-coming Ohio based entrepreneurs and producers.
During the month of November, Collier West will present three Thursday evening “Bubbles and Baubles” events featuring an array of jewelry selections by Ohio based artists. Heather Moore and Lori Leavitt, two Cleveland based jewelry artists, will make appearances on November 5th and November 12th, respectively.
Rounding out the local assortment, newly established vintage jewelry line Pont Neuf will take center stage on November 18th. Suzi West, the store’s proprietor, curated Pont Neuf. The trunk show is West’s first public show since establishing the line earlier this year. The currently exclusive line is hoping to find another home in a Columbus independent boutique.
“I recently visited Brooklyn and realized that there was such an amazing collective occurring between neighboring retailers. One store was showing another store’s in house designs. Inspired; I am hoping to create equally as strong of collaborations in the Columbus community.”
Thanksgiving day, Collier West will announce the final featured artist as the newest local author in the CW mix. “Auditions” and “Interviews” will be welcomed and reviewed from November 1st through November 21st. The top five selected Ohio artists will have their work on display Friday, Saturday and Sunday following the announcement.
“I believe independent retailing and entrepreneurism can be a synergistic pursuit that can launch a community or city into national recognition. Local business offers personalized service, diversity and preservation. Each time you honor a local independent, you are supporting the continued strength and vitality of a community.”
