The winner of this year's award is the Multi-Stage CR-H, a retrofit alternative to traditional ANSI pumps from Grundfos Pumps Corporation. As a plug-and-play alternative to pumps that are not operating at best efficiency points, the CR-H demonstrates greater efficiency with less required horsepower and does not require any re-piping in retrofits.

Retroflo, Ltd.'s RPC_2000 Pump Control System, a system that monitors the whole pump station, not just its individual components, receives second place. Features like pre-blockage detection keep debris buildup from escalating into blockage.

Third place goes to Baldor for its RPMAC PM Direct Drive Cooling Tower Motor and VS1CTD Drive. This variable speed motor and drive with a motor mounted directly under the fan replaces the existing motor, jack shaft and gearbox in wet cooling towers.

Finish Thompson receives fourth place for the SP22, a self-priming, magnetic drive centrifugal pump that safely and efficiently transfers a wide variety of hazardous chemicals including aggressive acids and bases.

Rounding out the top five is ITT Goulds Pumps with its 3196 iFRAME Intelligent Pump. Using ITT proprietary software, the patent pending pump performs continuous temperature and vibration monitoring and communicates to the user with light emitting diodes (LED) if parameters are exceeded.

Reliability Center, Inc.'s PROACT Logic Tree Knowledge Management Templates and Lewa's Intellidrive both received honorable mentions.

Products under consideration must have been introduced to the market between January 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009. Nominees were required to provide evidence that the product was an improvement over current technology based on actual use in the field. The P&S Editorial Advisory Board and editorial team carefully studied each nominated product to ensure it met the criteria.

More details on the winners, finalists and honorable mentions can be found in the December 2009 issue of Pumps & Systems. Check the "Awards" section of www.pump-zone.com for submission forms for the 2010 Product Innovation of the Year Award, as well as the 2010 Success Story of the Year Award.
