Noted Cosmetic Surgeon Discovers New Techniques for Non-Surgical Procedures, Designed to Combat the Signs of Aging and Restore Youthful Appearance
A Recent Study, Authored by Val Lambros, M.D., FACS, Takes a Close Look at Fillers Used to Add Volume, Off-set Facial Deflation
Orange County, CA (PRWEB) November 2, 2009 -- While traditional plastic surgery is the answer for some people, it isn't for everyone. Instead of relying solely on the traditional facelift, which merely pulls the sagging facial skin taut and oftentimes gives an artificial result, some plastic surgeons are beginning to combine that technique with the practice of injections (Hyaluronic acid fillers or the body's natural fat) that fill in the face so that the patient has a more natural result. Newport Beach plastic surgeon Val Lambros, M.D, FACS, has authored a study, published in May/June 2009 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, which could have considerable impact on how plastic surgeons approach treating patients.
These are minimally-invasive and cost-effective procedures that make a big difference, Lambros said, adding that the key areas of his focus are the brow line, temple, chin hollow and tear troughs.
"Certain parts of the face project emotional states, and if a specialist can identify those areas they can make big changes to facial features with just a little bit of input," he explained. "In some cases, the addition of volume may provide a better-looking result than traditional surgical alternatives."
In previously published articles, Lambros has demonstrated how gravity's role in the aging process has been exaggerated and that the loss of volume beneath the skin is what actually contributes to an aged appearance. In his presentations, Lambros shares early and recent photos of his mature adult patients -- at their peak age (late 20s or early 30s) and, in the same pose, as they appear now. After aligning them perfectly, he tracks the movement of moles, wrinkles and other facial "landmarks" to demonstrate that only a few features shifted over time.
"As a person ages, their brows tend to fall slightly, their upper lips thin and, most notably, their jowls become more prominent," Lambros said. "It's a commonly accepted practice to reverse these noticeable effects of aging by pulling the skin back through a facelift. Although facelifts are great operations if you need them, this may be more surgery than the face needs. Many times the younger person just needs some filler to make things better."
"In my practice, I emphasize giving my patients a natural-looking result that--in some cases--may call for fillers as opposed to a facelift," he added.
When these concepts are difficult for his patients to grasp, Lambros uses a local anesthetic to provide his patients with a preview of the aesthetic result of treatment with Hyaluronic Acid fillers to add volume to the brow and other areas of the face. This temporary effect usually lasts 20 minutes, Lambros said.
Most treatments are performed using Hyaluronic Acid fillers, which have the benefit of results that are reversible, long-lasting and cost effective. Lambros uses a fanning technique to inject small quantities of filler. "The use of these techniques results in a high degree of patient satisfaction," Lambros said, adding, "Results lasting two years are common and we have observed longevity of three years or more in some patients."
Dr. Lambros has been a leader in the field of plastic surgery for more than 20 years, during which time he has published numerous papers in respected medical journals and conducted presentations before his colleagues the world over. Lambros maintains an office near Fashion Island, 360 San Miguel, Suite, 406, Newport Beach, Calif., (949) 759-4733.
