Food Bank for Westchester "Give Back Olympics" Yields Over 9,000 Pounds of Food
The Food Bank for Westchester, which is celebrating its 20th year of fighting hunger in Westchester, recently hosted the "Give Back Olympics" to help raise awareness of hunger and reaffirm corporate commitment to hunger relief in Westchester County.
Millwood, NY (PRWEB) June 3, 2009 -- The Food Bank for Westchester, which is celebrating its 20th year of fighting hunger in Westchester, recently hosted the "Give Back Olympics" to help raise awareness of hunger and reaffirm corporate commitment to hunger relief in Westchester County.
Teams of 25 employees from each corporation competed against each other to pack the most food. The winner was Kraft Foods, which packed 5,608 pounds of pinto beans, as compared to PepsiCo's 3,481 pounds.
"It was heartening to see so many people come together to help the Food Bank's efforts in providing food to hungry individuals and families in Westchester," said Christina Rohatynskyj, Executive Director of the Food Bank. "We are so grateful to Kraft and PepsiCo for helping to pack more than four tons of food. Everyone who participated truly is a winner."
The Food Bank for Westchester, one of eight food banks in New York State, acquires, warehouses and distributes food to 200 Westchester County hunger relief organizations, including food pantries and soup kitchens, among others. These efforts feed some or all of the 200,000 people in Westchester who are hungry or at risk of hunger. The Food Bank mission is supported by an extensive donor and volunteer network.
The Food Bank supports organizations in the following Westchester communities: Cortlandt Manor, Croton-on-Hudson, Eastchester, Harrison, Hawthorne, Katonah, Larchmont/Mamaroneck, Mohegan Lake, Montrose, Mount Kisco, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Ossining, Peekskill, Port Chester, Pleasantville, Tarrytown, Thornwood, Tuckahoe, White Plains, Yonkers and Yorktown Heights.
