Aspen Dental Leads Efforts To Clean Up For Earth Day
Hundreds of Aspen Dental employees and family members participated in Earth Day activities.
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) May 1, 2009 -- Aspen Dental employees and their family members gave Mother Earth a helping hand during two weekends of Earth Day activities. In all, more than 500 people representing more than 60 Aspen Dental offices participated in clean up efforts across 12 states from Maine to Iowa on Saturday, April 18 and Saturday, April 25. About 70 employees and family members from the Aspen Dental Management Inc. Practice Support Center in East Syracuse participated in the effort on April 25.
Members of Aspen Dental's "Smile Squad" removed trash and debris from parks and other public areas in neighborhoods near the company's local offices. Activities included picking up debris from along local roadways; weeding; raking leaves; and planting flowers, trees and grass in local parks, nature centers and fish hatcheries.
"The level of participation and the enthusiasm displayed by members of the Aspen Dental team and their families truly shows their commitment and Aspen Dental's commitment to improving the quality of life in communities where Aspen Dental offices are located and where Aspen Dental patients work and live," said Bob Fontana, President & CEO, Aspen Dental Management, Inc. "The numbers of people and offices participating this year compared to last year is extremely gratifying. Our annual Earth Day event is the most visible aspect of our commitment to the environment, but our green efforts are ongoing year-round."
Aspen Dental Management, Inc.'s Practice Support Center in East Syracuse, NY, opened in August 2006 and was built with sound environmental practices and LEED certification in mind (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Features of the Support Center include:
--Low-VOC paint (volatile organic compounds) used throughout.
--High-efficiency, low-energy lighting using T-4 ballasts.
--Special roof membrane--white, rather than black membrane helps reflect heat and sun to reduce cooling costs
--High efficiency heat pumps provide cooling in summer and heating in winter
--Tinted, low-E windows
--Carpeting that meets LEED certification standards
Aspen Dental offices, located in 14 states from Maine to Arizona, are environmentally friendly, too:
--Low-wattage overhead lighting
--Dry vacuum system for suction equipment vs. vacuum systems that use as much as 800 gallons of water a day.
--Oil-less air compressors used for dental instruments, including drills
--Digital radiography eliminates the need for fixer and developer used to process traditional x-rays
"While we are pleased with our efforts to date, we are continually looking at technologies and practices that enhance our green efforts throughout the Aspen Dental network," Fontana said.
Aspen Dental is a leading provider of denture and dental care services committed to providing patients with affordable, high-quality care. There are more than 180 Aspen Dental offices in 14 states from Maine to Arizona.
