Recycled Glass Shines in Earth Day Award- Bars and Restaurants Partner With Green Business Innovator to Produce Art from Waste

Recycling works for Green Restaurants and Bars in creative partnership with industry pioneer. Each week, Weisenbach Recycled Products picks up 500 lbs. of empty glass bottles from 5 popular establishments. The glass is crushed, melted, and crafted into beautiful art pieces for the company's exclusive line of recognition awards. The Columbus Ohio Earth Day Challenge Cup, sponsored by NetJets, is a Weisenbach product made from recycled wine and spirits bottles from the restaurants.

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) April 10, 2009 -- As Earth Day spins near, Weisenbach Recycled Products (WRP) is giving us a reason to raise a toast to environmental responsibility. The company's exclusive line of presentation glass, made from 100% recycled wine and spirits bottles, has received rave reviews. WRP's clients, seeking unique ways to recognize outstanding performance are understandably excited about this beautifully recycled art form.

Owner Dan Weisenbach, 47, attributes the success of his new shining star to its enviable Wow Factor. "People are drawn to the beautiful colors and shapes of the pieces. When they come closer and see the designs that we have etched into the glass, they are really impressed. And, when we tell them that these pieces were once wine bottles from a great downtown restaurant, they are Wowed! This is a glittering example of how we can take waste from one business and use it as raw material for another."

WARM manufacturing is the phrase that Weisenbach coined to describe using Waste As Raw Material. His company continues to develop new ways to make it commercially viable. The dozens of trademarks and patents held by the company are evidence of the 28 years they've spent in creating new products from waste and scrap materials like rubber tires, car batteries, printed circuit boards - and glass bottles.

In January of this year, Weisenbach began a pilot program to recycle glass directly from the restaurant and bar industry. He saw it as a perfect fit for a business-to-business partnership in sustainability. The 5 businesses, Betty's Fine Food and Spirits, The Surly Girl Saloon, Tip Top Kitchen and Cocktails, The Red Brick Inn, and Barley's Alehouse, are popular restaurants in the Columbus area. They serve liquor, wine, beer, and great food in the busy downtown, Short North, OSU Campus, and German Village areas of Columbus.

Glass is one of the biggest components of waste in the bar and restaurant business. Each week, Weisenbach's company takes an average of 500 pounds of glass waste from these restaurants. The glass is cleaned, color sorted and crushed. Weisenbach's artist melts it in a specially built furnace and fashions the molten glass into recognition award discs, vases, trophy cups, and sculptures. Weisenbach's design professionals custom-etch the pieces to create the line of exclusive presentation glass called the ReAward®.

When Columbus gathers on April 19 at Goodale Park as part of the Earth Week Celebration, it is fitting that the award that will be presented is, itself, a Weisenbach product made of recycled glass from the 5 restaurants. The Earth Day Challenge Cup, sponsored by NetJets, is a stunning emerald colored trophy with graceful leaves merging atop a glittering spiraled column. It will be presented to the groups that enlist the largest number of volunteers to complete environmental projects on Saturday, April 18. Perhaps the winners will head to one of the 5 establishments and raise a glass to a job well done. Regardless of how they celebrate, they can be sure that the company that created the trophy will be hard at work to find new ways to recycle and reuse the empty bottles.

Currently the Weisenbach team is working on prototypes for several more exciting products made from recycled glass. These will soon join the ReAward® and over 900 other very Green, very responsible items available from Weisenbach Recycled Products. You can see them all at RecycledProducts.com.

Let's raise a glass to success through responsibility and innovation!
