Hanford, CA (PRWEB) March 11, 2009 -- Global Food Technologies, a California based life science company, is introducing iPura® the "World's First Food Safety Brand" at the Boston Seafood Show on March 15th. The safety of the U.S. food supply has been in the spotlight recently as food-borne illnesses have caused consumers to question our entire food safety system.

"Today, there are growing expectations on business to solve food safety problems, sustainability issues, as well as environmental and social concerns. Global Food Technologies in response to those challenges has launched the "iPura Food Safety Program" to improve food processing methods and food safety results. iPura® builds in safety from the start with proprietary organic methods that make food cleaner and safer without affecting the products natural taste, texture or color while safeguarding the products nutritional value. "'The Highest Standard in Food Safety' is not just our slogan, it is the end result," says GFT Director of Marketing, Robert Clark.

With E.coli in ground beef, listeria in lunch meats, melamine in dairy products, Salmonella in peanut butter & jalapenos, why is seafood iPura's first food safety focus? In a recent report published by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), seafood is the leading known cause of foodborne illness outbreaks. The U.S. imports almost 85% of the seafood that it consumes, while the FDA reports it is able to inspect less than 1% of U.S. imports.

"The reputation and livelihood of seafood suppliers in the U.S. is dependent on foreign product sourcing, usually from developing countries that lack the safety technologies, infrastructure, procedures and regulation that American consumers have come to expect and demand, when it comes to their food. The opportunity in seafood represents the greatest need and the biggest opportunity to begin iPura operations," Clark continued.

The facts are - bacteria cause serious infections and substantial economic disruption in industrialized as well as developing countries. The incidence of infection and contamination is escalating worldwide because of increased product-travel, intensive farming techniques, the booming organic industry, increasing consumer preference for minimally processed foods, fewer additives, and the over-use of conventional antibiotics that hasten the development of resistant bacterial strains.

The iPura Food Safety Program integrates a comprehensive daily regimen with environmentally friendly technologies and delivery systems to mitigate food hazards at the source of production, bolstering the food safety aspects of HACCP and recognized food safety standards. iPura builds in controls from the start that are designed to combat foodborne hazards and prevent contaminants from entering the food supply. The iPura team includes on-site microbiologists, quality assurance personal, system technicians, packaging and labeling supervisors to insure that the fish are individually packaged and sealed with Intaglio anti-counterfeit labels.

"The first product to carry the insured iPura seal is tilapia followed by salmon, catfish and shrimp with other product lines including poultry to follow. Our processor licensees include new state of the art facilities with vertical integration to ensure the integrity of the product. We start at a very high base before we apply the iPura program," Clark stated.
