Two Years To The Date: Director's Cross Country Journey Lands Film Distribution

Filmmaker Gabriel Barboza truly went the distance to get distribution for his movie. He auctioned off Ad Space on Ebay to drive from New York to Los Angeles promoting the movie - sleeping in his truck, blogging, and video logging along the way.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) March 11, 2009 -- When filmmaker Gabriel Barboza shot the first frame of his feature film 'Green Eyed Monster' over two years ago, he had no idea it would take a cross-country drive from New York to Los Angeles for the film to meet with wide release. The movie is a supernatural thriller with an interactive twist that the filmmaker started developing while in college. The interactive element was inspired by written stories that had embedded clues to real treasure within their pages. Barboza felt it would be interesting to craft a story about hidden money and surround it with clues that could lead the viewer to actual prizes. He took the Hispanic folklore that had fueled his childhood fears and set out to make his first feature film on a shoe-string budget.

'Green Eyed Monster' screened to a completely filled theater six months after production wrapped and was met with great publicity in the DFW area in print, radio, and television. Thinking the path ahead of him was clear Barboza set out promoting his film throughout the Halloween season and held screenings while simultaneously seeking distribution. Seeing the publicity for the film begin to wane the filmmaker hatched a plan to spread the word about the move Nationwide. He auctioned off Ad Space on Ebay on a borrowed Scrolling Billboard truck and set off on a drive throughout Texas, up to New York, and across to Los Angeles.

The filmmaker knew he had to spread the word about both the trip and the movie so he utilized various social networking tools to maintain both a written blog and video log of the journey. Along the way the movie screened in theaters and smaller venues, and the director promoted his movie at Horror Conventions including: Texas Frightmare Weekend, Monstermania in New Jersey, Full Moon Horror Festival in Tennessee, Texas Fear Fest, and his final destination - Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors in Los Angeles.

"The trip was an absolute blast, promoting the movie in Manhattan, breaking down in the Arizona desert alone, and sleeping in my truck outside of the Sunset Bower Studios in LA had to be some of the most memorable moments of the trip," remembers Barboza. Due to the publicity he gained along the way he was contacted by several distributors interested in the film and eventually signed with World Film Magic distribution out of Los Angeles. In what the director refers to as a 'poetic coincidence' the movie was released exactly two years to the date of that first day of production. The movie is available through several online retailers including Netflix.com and Blockbuster.com.

You can learn more about the movie by visiting the official site at www.greeneyedmonstermovie.com. Barboza is currently busy on his next project, a website aimed at helping aspiring filmmakers and actors achieve their goals. The site, TheMoviePool.com goes live this month.
