SMS Text Serves Up Tasty Results for Fast Food Outlets
Leading mobile marketing firm www.txtlocal.com has recorded a massive increase in the number of fast food outlets signing up for their online SMS text service during 2008.

A group of five West Midland Subway franchises have had huge success with their text promotions, sending out promotional meal deals to existing customers. Paterson states that the main reason for Subway’s text success is due to the quality of the promotions on offer and the speed and reach in which they can be relayed “If we have a good offer, we want people to know about it immediately so that we can get people into the store quickly. Raj Shanmuga, owner of pizza outlet Papa John’s in Northolt agrees that it is all a matter of response rates. “With text credits costing only 4p and an average response rate of 20% we think text communication is very good value.”
Another key feature driving the popularity of text is its power as a viral marketing tool, with text having the ability to reach much further than the initial recipients alone. Mobile Marketing Magazine reports that it is common for people to forward text promotions onto their friends, which results in even greater penetration for free. This may be another contributory factor to the particularly high response rates within this sector.
Other fast food outlets using Txtlocal’s SMS service include Dominos, Perfect Pizza and a number of Indian and Chinese restaurants who send out bespoke text promotions on a regular basis.
