Virginia Leaf Report Points Fall Travelers to Peak Foliage

Virginia Launches 2008 Fall Travel Web Site and Toll-Free Leaf Line

Richmond, Va. (PRWEB) October 1, 2008 -- When is the best time to see the brightest autumn colors in Virginia? Just ask "Forester Tim," Virginia's fall foliage forecaster and one of the innovative resources on Virginia Tourism Corporation's fall travel Web site, FallinVirginia.org, and toll-free Leaf Line, 1-800-424-LOVE.

Virginia urges travelers who have a zest for living to paint their imagination with colors of oranges, yellows, reds and browns and to inject a generous helping of "passionality" into their travel plans - something the VTC fall travel Web site and Leaf Line can easily facilitate.

The Web site is packed with trip ideas and more than 350 fall travel packages from across Virginia. More than 2,500 lodging sites and nearly as many restaurants are listed and can be sorted according to locality and cuisine type. Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and routes through the Shenandoah Valley are among the recommended scenic drives.

In the fall Virginia bursts out in special events and festivals. A listing on the Web site covers everything from wine events to bluegrass music gatherings, harvest festivals, food festivals and pick-your-own apples and pumpkins opportunities.

In Virginia, fall is famous for more than just pretty leaves. This year October celebrates its 20th anniversary as Virginia Wine Month and there are festivals and special wine events scheduled throughout the Commonwealth. Try the Virginia Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival, October 17 - 19, near Millwood.

Another Virginia fall favorite as popular with adults as it is kids are corn mazes. This year find great fun in the massive Virginia Is For Lovers corn maze at Cows-N-Corn near Warrenton. Virginia's fall travel Web site lists corn mazes as well as pick-your-own produce sites, all of which are annual family favorites.

And then there's Forester Tim. Perhaps the biggest question fall travelers have is "When will the leaves be at their peak of color?" Forester Tim, of Virginia's Department of Forestry, lends his expertise in weekly foliage updates both in text and streaming audio. His reports can also be heard on Virginia's Fall Leaf Line, 1-800-424-LOVE. Weekly photos from some of Virginia's award-winning State Parks also illustrate current foliage color in different regions of the Commonwealth. And starting October 1, a special color tracker will show the progress of peak foliage from west to east across Virginia.

Planning travel to Virginia this fall is easy. Visit www.FallinVirginia.org and let your imagination and passion for fall travel run wild.
