Pixelection Launches - Giving People a New, Stronger Voice in the 2008 Presidential Campaign

Innovative website lets voters and advertisers "vote with their dollar" while raising money for candidates and charities.

Boston, MA & Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 7, 2008 -- Pixelection, the non-partisan organization dedicated to giving advertisers a greater voice in the political process, today announced the launch of its website, www.pixelection.net , to coincide with the commencement of the 2008 presidential primary season. Pixelection was developed to give advertisers more bang for their advertising buck by providing high exposure for a relatively low cost, and as an added benefit, by donating a portion of every ad buy to a political party or to a worthy charity.

Pixelection is the coupling of two seemingly unrelated ideas. Idea one, that pixel advertising is an interesting and innovative ad platform that has been underutilized. Wrapping the platform around a bigger concept makes the platform much more powerful. Idea two, the frustration around "campaign finance reform" on both sides of the issue.

"No one wants big companies influencing politics to the detriment of the people, nor does anyone want their rights as citizens to donate to, advocate for or otherwise support a candidate to be constrained," noted the Pixelection team. "Thus Pixelection was born - giving the people in the electorate a way to make the most of the situation, allowing them to "vote with their dollar" to give us a new glimpse into the political landscape."

Pixelection has set a goal of raising $100,000 for the parties involved in the election as well as three charities - The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, The National Center for Policy Analysis, and the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation - by donating 20% of all advertising buys. Advertisers will be able to indicate to which party they would like their 20% to be allocated.

"Everyone has heard of The Million Dollar Homepage. Its a really interesting advertising concept, but it can be used for more than just a gimmick," said Pixel Red, a marketing professional. "Pixelection takes the pixel ad premise and wraps it around political advertising, giving individuals and organizations a way to leverage both their voice in the political process and their advertising investment."

Pixels can be purchased in any increments, with a 100 x 100 pixel minimum (any smaller would be impossible to see). Pixelection will display the ad on the homepage from the time it is purchased until three months after Inauguration Day (January 20, 2009). During that time the homepage will not change - providing advertisers extremely good value for their ad dollar.

"You could donate $100 to a campaign or charity, for example, and have it go into their coffers to use at their discretion," noted Pixel Blue, a designer and blogger. "Or, you could buy a $100 Pixelection ad which provides you with a ton of exposure, plus you're still giving money to important causes. In effect, you're giving these causes a lot more value that they would have had with a single donation."

About Pixelection:
Pixelection was started by two friends who were sick of the current state of affairs with "campaign finance reform," and saw an untapped opportunity with the pixel ad format. For privacy reasons they are keeping their names to themselves - preferring to be called Pixel Red and Pixel Blue. As the names imply, they come from different sides of the political spectrum. Look for heated debate and commentary on the Pixelection blog, and visit www.pixelection.net.
