Corporate Leader Magazine Debuts With Ranking of the 100 Leading CEOs in the U.S.

Nation's financial community invited to rate CEOs of the most influential companies for ground-breaking survey; Apple's Jobs leads the pack; GM's Wagoner brings up the rear, some at the bottom already out of a job.

(PRWEB) November 16, 2007 -- Corporate Leader, the magazine for America's C-Suite executives, board members and general counsels launches today with a list of America's 100 Leading CEOs, as voted on by members of the financial community.

"Ultimately, the world of finance determines the fate of today's CEOs," said Randall Lane, Editor in Chief of Corporate Leader and President of Doubledown Media, its parent company. "The readers of Trader Monthly and Dealmaker, two of our Doubledown publications, participated in this survey - they're from every slice of the investment world. This group is uniquely qualified to rate the leaders of this country's largest publicly-owned companies."

Trader Monthly is the magazine for hedge fund managers and traders; Dealmaker is for investment bankers, private equity executives and venture capitalists. Approximately 80,000 subscribers to these two publications were invited to participate in the survey.

Like heat-seeking missiles, respondents took aim at leaders they saw as underperforming. Three who ranked below the midpoint have already resigned or announced their pending resignations: #92 Richard Parsons of Time Warner, #54 E. Stanley O'Neal of Merrill Lynch and Citigroup's Charles Prince, who ranked #94.

Apple's Steve Jobs finished in the top spot. Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs was a distant second, although still 13 places ahead of the next CEO from the "Financials" segment, James Dimon of JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Additionally:

  • Four female CEOs were ranked in the top 100: #12 Meg Whitman (eBay); #35 Indra K. Nooyi (PepsiCo); #53 Patricia A. Woertz (Archer Daniels Midland); #84 Angela F. Braly (Wellpoint)
  • Results are also shown by age group and job category; the only group not to have Steve Jobs in first place are Managing Directors at Large Banks, who gave top honors to News Corp's Rupert Murdoch (#7 overall)
  • Respondents were asked to name up-and-coming CEOs they liked - U.S. Bancorp's Richard David finished on top
  • When asked to name former CEOs they admired, respondents gave Jack Welch the #1 slot.
