Based on reported MPG estimates from Ford, Dodge, Honda, Toyota, and Chevy, the average mid-sized compact or sedan will range from eighteen to twenty miles per gallon for city driving and up to thirty miles per gallon for highway driving. The Hybrid models of these compact or mid-sized cars can increase fuel mileage by as much as thirty to forty percent, based on reported fuel mileage estimates.
"Toyota leads the pack," States Smith. The Prius Hybrid claims to be able to get as much as sixty miles per gallon in the city and around fifty one miles per gallon on the highway. "Based on our research, that is the best fuel economy we have been able to find from the top manufacturers thus far," stated Smith. But it still won't get you from San Francisco to New York with only $50 to spend on gas.
